Forgotten Fields of America, Volume III

Lou Thole is pleased to announce the publication of his latest book, Forgotten Fields of America, World War II Bases and Training Then and Now, Volume IV. This is how Lou operates: He selects a handful of W.W.II Army Air Forces training bases. Then he researches their histories, interviews people who served at them, and visits them to see what's left from the W.W.II era. Then he writes a chapter on each base, combining historical data with human interest. You'll read about the construction of the bases, their missions, the routines of the trainers and trainees, and the impact on the local communities. At the same time, you'll learn a few things about the training programs, the aircraft, and the social conditions of the era.

You may have read some of Lou's many articles in the Air Force Museum Foundation's Friends Journal. That's where I first saw his work, and we've corresponded for several years since then.
